CHARLOTTE (HELMKAMP) KEMP
At 10˝ pounds - and one month late - Charlotte Helmkamp was born on January 27, 1963 in Omaha, Nebraska, during the middle of a blizzard. She is of German, French, Scottish and Native American descent. Her great-great-grandmother was a full-blooded Iroquois, and Charlotte is very proud of her original American ancestry.
A few years later she turned to running as a way to calm her stress, and asthma, brought on by Los Angeles air. Within six months she ran her first marathon. Since March of 1994, she has completed 27 marathons and numerous 5 kilometer races. An avid skier since the age of 4, Charlotte has conquered the European Alps, Canada’s Whistler, and all of the great North American slopes.
The spotlight began to shine on Charlotte when she was approached by Playboy to do a pictorial while pursuing her degrees in Biology and Psychology at Indiana University. Having already done some modeling in college, Charlotte carefully considered Playboy’s offer, deciding that the venture would be beneficial for both parties. With the December 1982 issue, Charlotte officially became a Playboy Playmate, and in October 1983, she was on the cover of Playboy magazine.
Charlotte did a tremendous amount of modeling, including Vogue and Cosmo. Late in 1984 she met a Formula One racing driver and moved to Monte Carlo, where she lived for the next 7 years. During this time she did a tremendous amount of modeling, appearing in several films made in Italy and Japan by Bandai Productions. In 1990 her relationship ended, and Charlotte moved back to New York, where she starred in Frankenhooker, Posed for Murder, and several commercials. She starred in two movies for Bandai Productions in Japan.
In 1991 Charlotte moved to Los Angeles and formed her own company - International Sponsors Limited - specializing in corporate event sponsorship, which focused on matching up corporate sponsors with major sporting events.
In 1994 Charlotte became the first Playmate ever to receive a license from Playboy, and founded “The Playboy Running Team,” dispelling the myth that Playboy Playmates are only pretty faces and bodies. The Playboy Running team consisted of ten Playmates, unified through their passion for fitness, the outdoors, and running marathons. Coined "Playmates with a Purpose," the Playboy Running Team raised awareness and funds for organizations such as the Leukemia Foundation, P.E.A.C.E., and the Dream Foundation. The Playboy Running Team received media attention nationally by appearing on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Inside Edition, and Hard Copy, as well as numerous magazines and publications.
After a very short marriage in 1996, Charlotte has a wonderful son, and she has kept in shape. In 2004 she started her own production company, and created a health and fitness video for women over the age of 40 entitled Beautiful Body, Beautiful Life.
In 2005 Charlotte met her current husband, and they married in June of 2006. They moved to Houston, Texas in June of 2007, so they could be closer to Charlotte's sister and her family, as well as her husband's work.
Charlotte has gone back to school, and has started doing her own photography for special events, as well as photo shoots for aspiring models. She writes, and is currently working on a memoir, as well as several short stories and a collection of poems. She is also working on 2 scripts which she will produce.
Charlotte has traveled the world over and again, having visited Japan, China, Thailand, Tibet, and Nepal. She has also been to Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo, Brazil, and almost every country in Western and Eastern Europe. She cannot forget her beloved Australia. According to Charlotte, "I could go on, but you get the picture. I have been blessed with travel, culture, and love."
